Cusco, located in southern Peru, is a city with perhaps the most beautiful views in the world. Due to central location the city is often used as departing point for discovering Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Lots of archaeological sites like Machupicchu surround the city and the Sacred Valley; the Titicaca Lake is only a few hours away.

The Cusco is 'Archaeological Capital of the Americas' is a beautiful city riddled with contrasts between the indigenous styles and the modern western world. It is these contrasts that have given Cusco its rare beauty.

It has an area of 76,329 square kilometers, its capital city is Cusco. It is well known as the archaeological capital of America and the “navel of the world” or sometimes the Imerial City of Cusco.

The city of Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incan Empire, was placed on the World Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO in 1983, and is without a doubt one of the most important destinations in Peru.

Visitors marvel at the city's unusual physical appearance, which uniquely and harmoniously integrate, in the same urban environment, pre-Colombian monuments such as the Korikancha, ("Temple of the Sun"), the Ajlla Wasi, the Amaru Cancha ("Fence of the Serpent"), and the Kiswar Kancha, amongst others, with "mestizo" (mixed Spanish and native) architectural gems such as Cusco’s Cathedral, the Church and Convent of La Merced and the Temple of San Blas.

Cuzco is surrounded by impressive archeological remains such as the citadel of Machu Picchu, the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the Ollantaytambo compound and picturesque towns such as Pisaq, Calca and Yucay, which still preserve the traditions of their ancestors.

The history of this city dates back centuries in time. This beautiful valley set in the Peruvian Andes was home to various civilizations that gave birth to the great Inca Empire.
